After closing its production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee last March, the Sandbox Collective is set to stage the Broadway musical Little Shop of Horrors this July, marking its second production for 2024.

Little Shop of Horrors follows Seymour, a timid florist, who discovers a strange plant that he names Audrey II after his coworker and crush, Audrey. As Seymour nurtures the plant to bring success to the shop and to win Audrey’s heart, he finds himself drawn deeper into a dangerous game with Audrey II, whose appetite becomes increasingly ominous. With its blend of humor and suspense, the musical explores the tangled relationships between ambition, desire, and the sinister forces lurking within.

After posting a few teasers on social media over the past week, the company has officially announced four of its principal cast members. Reb Atadero and Nyoy Volante will be alternating for the role of underdog romantic, Seymour, while Karylle Tatlonghari and Sue Ramirez will be alternating for the role of Audrey.

Atadero is currently playing Mark Cohen in 9 Works Theatrical’s Rent. He was last seen in 2023 playing Michael in 9 Works Theatrical’s Tick, Tick …Boom!, M in The Sandbox Collective’s Lungs, and Mark in Upstart Productions’ Breakups and Breakdowns.

Volante was last seen playing Mitch Mahoney in The Sandbox Collective’s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Signor Adolfo Pirelli in Atlantis Theatrical’s Sweeney Todd in 2019, and Lola in Atlantis Theatrical’s Kinky Boots in 2018.

Tatlonghari was last seen playing Sita in Alice Reyes Dance Philippines’ Rama, Hari, Baroness Elsa von Schraeder in GMG Productions’ The Sound of Music in 2023, and Julie Jordan in Repertory Philippines’ Carousel in 2022.

Film and TV actress Sue Ramirez, who was most recently seen on TV in the series The Iron Heart and on the big screen in the film Rewind, will make her theatrical debut playing Audrey.

The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.

Written by Howard Ashman (book and lyrics) and Alan Menken (music), the sci-fi, tongue-in-cheek musical comedy will be directed by The Sandbox Collective’s Managing Artistic Director, Toff De Venecia, with musical direction by pianist and musical director Ejay Yatco. The show will run from July to August 2024 at the Globe Auditorium, Maybank Performing Arts Theater, BGC.

Exact show dates and ticketing details will be announced soon.
