Alice Reyes Dance Philippines’ (ARDP) Rama, Hari, which was staged for a limited run at The Metropolitan Theatre and at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater last September, is returning to the stage this February. Rama, Hari is officially the company’s first production for its 2024 dance season.

The musical theater actors who will be reprising their roles from the 2023 production are Arman Ferrer and Vien King as Rama, Karylle Tatlonghari, Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, and Nica Tupas as Sita, Poppert Bernadas and Jonel Mojica as the demon king Ravana, Audie Gemora as King Dasaratha, Miah Canton and Raflesia Bravo play the dual roles of Kooni and Soorpanakha, Paw Castillo and Jon Abella play the dual roles of Rama’s younger brother Lakshmana and the monkey general Hanuman, and Katrine Sunga plays the dual roles of Kaikeyi and “Gintong Usa”.

Marynor Madamesila joins the 2024 production, alternating with Sunga in both roles.

Presented by Alice Reyes Dance Philippines with the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the CCP Professional Artists Support Program, the 2024 rerun will have ten performances at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater beginning February 16 to February 25, with live music by the Orchestra of Filipino Youth performing Ryan Cayabyab’s score for all shows.

Rama, Hari remains the only production that features the collaborative work of 5 National Artists– Alice Reyes for Direction and Choreography, Ryan Cayabyab for Music, Salvador Bernal for Production Design, and Bienvenido Lumbera for the lyrics and libretto, with English translations by Rolando Tinio.

Inspired by the ancient Sanskrit epic, Ramayana, the production follows Rama, prince and incarnation of the god Vishnu, who comes down to earth to save the world from Ravana, the most powerful of demons. In time, Rama falls in love with Sita, the daughter of the king of Mithila, and eventually marries her. The evil Ravana attempts to tear the two apart only to find himself defeated and his demonic plans thwarted.

The show will run from February 16 to 25, 2024, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater. All performances will be accompanied by live music performed by The Orchestra of the Filipino Youth.
