CCP’s Triple Threats Concert Series returns in 2024, this time putting the spotlight on three leading ladies in Philippine musical theater: Carla Guevara Laforteza, Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, and Tanya Manalang-Atadero.

TRIPLE THREATS: The Leading Men and Women of Philippine Musical Theater is a series of solo concerts featuring the stalwarts of Philippine Musical Theater. Each concert offers an intimate experience, showcasing a curated selection of music chosen by the artists themselves. Their repertoire spans favorite songs from Broadway, the West End, original Filipino musicals, and iconic movies.

Dubbed a series of “concept concerts,” each performance weaves a unique narrative driven by the artists’ song choices. This format provides a rare opportunity for the audience to discover new dimensions of these acclaimed theater, television, and film performers. In theater parlance, a “triple threat” is an artist who can sing, act and dance.

The first concert, entitled A la Carlotta, features Carla Guevara Laforteza, under the musical direction of Gerard Salonga. This concert will be directed by Paolo Valenciano, with a script by Joel Trinidad and production design by Mio Infante.

Guevara Laforteza will be joined by the Filharmonika Orchestra in this concert. A la Carlotta will run on July 25, 7:30 PM at the CCP Black Box Theater.

The second concert, still untitled as of this writing, features Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, also an acclaimed Filipino musical theater actress with an extensive career in theater. She was last seen as Sita in Alice Reyes Dance Philippines’ production of Rama, Hari just this past February. In 2019, she played Fosca in the Philippine Opera Company’s production of Passion, and Dani’s mother in The Sandbox Collective’s performance of Dani Girl.
