‘Uncle Jane’ Chekhov Adaptation Set to Rerun this September
After three sold out performances last February, Uncle Jane, a new English adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya adapted and directed by Nelsito Gomez, is set to rerun this September.
Produced by the Company of Actors in Streamlined Theatre (CAST), in collaboration with Music Artes Inc., the returning cast features Missy Maramara as Jane, Topper Fabregas as Michael, Justine Peña as Elaine, Justine Narciso as Sofia, Audie Gemora as Alexander, Jay Glorioso as Ms. Marie, and Jaime Del Mundo as Ian.
Alexander (Audie Gemora), a once renowned scholar, now retired and in need of money, after many years in the city moves back to his provincial estate with his very beautiful and very restless young second wife, Elaine (Justine Peña). Much to the dissatisfaction of Jane (Missy Maramara), the estate manager, embittered at having wasted her life in the service of Alexander. We also have the provincial doctor Michael (Topper Fabregas) left numb and hopeless after years of failing to heal patients. Ian (Jaime Del Mundo), father of Jane, still an ardent supporter of Alexander, and holding on to the belief that Alexander can reclaim his former success. Alexander’s dutiful daughter from his first marriage, Sofia (Justine Narciso), pines for love and excitement. Ms. Marie (Jay Glorioso), the hardworking househelp tries to keep the peace. How will these characters handle Alexander’s critical decision concerning the estate and everyone living in it?
Artistic Director of CAST, Nelsito Gomez, adds, “We were very humbled by the reception and general feedback that audiences had towards the play last February. We didn’t expect this small show to have such a big impact. And that has spurred us on to do it again. But with a few changes and adjustments to the script all informed by how audiences reacted. Some adjustments are minute, and others quite significant. So for the people who saw it last February, they’ll definitely be in for a surprise if they catch it again.”
“But what hasn’t changed is the cast who, I am very proud to say, are all returning to the show to recreate their wonderful performances once more.”
Uncle Jane will run for four performances on September 2, 3, 8, and 10, 2023 at 7:30pm. All shows will be held in The Mirror Studios, 5th floor, SJG building, 8463 Kalayaan Ave, Makati, 1209 Metro Manila. Limited seats for this intimate staging are on sale now for P700. Visit here for tickets.
