The Necessary Theatre’s staging of Red starring Bart Guingona (who also serves as director) as Mark Rothko and JC Santos as Ken is set to rerun this September at the PETA Theater Center for one weekend only.

The two-hander play previously ran earlier this year for a limited 10-show run from June 9 to 18 at the PETA Theater Center. The upcoming run will run for 5 shows only — September 1 at 8pm, September 2 at 3:30pm and 8pm, and September 3 at 3:30pm and 8pm.

Set in the 1950’s and based on a series of real events, Red follows artist Mark Rothko, who is at the height of his career. Viewed through the lens of his youthful new assistant, audiences will get to witness Rothko at the pinnacle of his creativity, but struggling through the creation of a series of large paintings, commissioned as a series intended to be featured in New York’s brand new Four Seasons Restaurant. As Ken and Rothko paint, they challenge each other to ask big questions about art: what it takes to create it and what its role should be in the world.

Also in the artistic team are Mark Daniel Dalacat (production design), Gabo Tolentino (lighting design), and Jose Buencamino (sound design).

Ticket prices are P800 (balcony side), P,1000 (orchestra side), P1,500 (balcony center), P1,500 (orchestra center), and P1,800 (VIP). You can reserve tickets for the first two shows here.  Everyone who signs up early gets one complimentary signed poster and one complimentary signed souvenir program.
