Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel” is going to be staged by Repertory Philippines in May 2020. The production will star Nikki Gil as Julie Jordan and Gian Magdangal as Billy Bigelow, both making their REP debuts.

The musical follows a poor young couple, millhouse worker Julie Jordan and carousel barker Billy Bigelow. When they both lose their jobs because of their whirlwind love affair, Billy is pressured into committing theft to provide for their unborn child. After everything goes tragically wrong, he is given a chance to make things right. The musical explores the heartbreak and complexities that make its characters so tragically and wonderfully human.

The production will be directed by Toff de Venecia. “Carousel” first opened on Broadway in 1945. It is the second musical by the team of Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (book and lyrics) following “Oklahoma.” Its most recent staging was a 2018 Broadway revival starring Jessie Mueller and Joshua Henry.

Ticketing information and further details will be announced soon.
