The first trailer for ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’, the sequel to the 2008 film starring Meryl Streep, has just been released.
The clip features new cast member Lily James (‘Cinderella’, ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’), who plays the young version of Meryl Streep’s character Donna Sheridan. Sheridan’s story as a single mother and the challenges she faced is told in flashbacks as her daughter Sophie (with Amanda Seyfried reprising her role from the first movie) faces challenges of her own in the present.
The original film is an adaptation of the hugely successful Broadway production ‘Mamma Mia’, featuring music from Swedish pop group Abba. The sequel will feature songs not previously included in the first movie, with Abba members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus serving as executive producers. It is set for release on July 20, 2018.
Along with Streep and Seyfried, original cast members Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski and Julie Walters also return. There’s also a surprise cameo from a musical icon included in the trailer. Watch it below:
