Lola Doc, the second installment of Tanghalang Pilipino’s monovlog series, will be streaming on the company’s YouTube page on May 21 at 6pm.

The story comes after we are introduced to Lolo Doc, the titular character’s husband, in the last episode. Played by Nora Aunor, Lola Doc reluctantly takes a brief break from her duties as a frontliner in a Covid-19 hospital as she deals with consoling her grieving grandchildren for the loss of her husband, resolving her sense of guilt for not being able to save him, and attending to her patients who are on the brink of death.

“Isang napakagandang akda tungkol sa ating mga bagong bayani, ang mga doctors, at ang kanilang mga sakripisyo,” says Aunor. “Naka-ilang beses ko rin akong take sa monovlog bago maging satisfied sa aking nagawa.”

She also admits that it is not easy making a scene by herself, but this challenge is really one of the most painful points of the material – the agony of facing the pandemic alone.

Written by Layeta Bucoy, she initially explored the monovlog form with Uleb Nieto and Bicol-based theater group Sining Banwa, led by Sari Saysay. To date, Nieto has performed 13 monovlogs.

The online production is part of PansamanTANGHALAN, a series of shows that the company will be releasing online. PansamanTANGHALAN also supports Open House, an online fundraising project for the benefit of the performing arts community, which has been greatly hit by the current lockdown.
