Joanna Ampil is set to play Mary Magdalene in Tokyu Theatre Orb’s “Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert” this October 11-14, 2019. She is set to play opposite Ramin Karimloo as Judas Iscariot, Telly Leung as Peter, Declan Bennett as Jesus Christ, Songha as King Herod, Soma Suzuki as Caiaphas, Robert Marien as Pontius Pilate, Naoto Kaiho as Simon Zealotes, and Aaron Walpole as Annas.

Joining them in the ensemble are Maaya Harada, Mare Kasuga, Arisa Kojima, Haruna Minato, Kaito Arai, Chang Hae, Yoichi Imamura, and Kan Muto.

With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, this production will be directed by Mark Stuart, with music direction by Shigeru Yawata and set design by Mirei Iwamoto. The show will be played by a live band and performed in English with Japanese subtitles.

Ampil also played the same role when she opened for the West End Revival in 1996. A live concert version of the show was recently produced by NBC last April 1, 2018 starring John Legend as Jesus, Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene, Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas, and Alice Cooper as King Herod.

Ampil is also set to play the role of Grizabella in the 2019 international tour of Cats, which is set to begin its Manila leg this November.
