Theater Veteran Bernardo Bernardo Passes Away
Theater veteran actor Bernardo Bernardo, who was most recently seen in the critically-acclaimed movie-musical ‘Ang Larawan’, passed away this morning at 73 years old.
On his birthday last January 5, Bernardo posted about having a tumor in his pancreas. His friends organized fundraising events for him last January and February to help with the medical expenses.
Bernardo was most recently seen on stage as Mr. Sims in Red Turnip Theater’s staging of ‘The Nether’ and as Alpha Babaylan starring opposite Cris Villonco in last year’s Virgin Labfest entry, ‘Dear and Unhappy.’ His career in theater, TV, and film spans for almost 50 years.
Members of the theater community shared their condolences.
Rest In Peace, Bernardo Bernardo. This has been heavy news to hear. Tito Bernie was my very first leading man in the very first show I ever did, The King and I (he played the King of Siam and I was one of his daughters). Kind, funny, ebullient, brilliant, big hearted. Sigh.
