“Smash” Will Be Moving to Broadway
Smash is moving to Broadway with the title Smash: A New Musical, reports Variety.
Like the 2012-2013 musical drama series, the stage production will follow a creative team’s journey to create Bombshell, a new Broadway show about the life of Marilyn Monroe. Smash composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will return to write the score, which will include many of the songs from the series, while Bob Martin and Rick Elice will be co-writing the book. Joshua Bergasse, who won the Primetime Emmy Award in 2012 for Best Choreography, will be returning to choreograph the show.
The story will not be exactly like the series, but it will still follow central characters Ivy, Karen, Julia, and Tom, who were played by Megan Hilty, Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing, and Christian Borle.
The announcement was made by producers Steven Spielberg, Robert Greenblatt and Neil Meron on the day of Bombshell in Concert’s online broadcast, which served as a fundraiser for The Actors Fund. Casting and other details have yet to be announced.
