‘Schmigadoon’ Season 2 Will Feature ‘Sweeney Todd’, ‘Chicago’, and more!
Schmigadoon, the Apple TV+ musical comedy series, has just released its season 2 trailer!
Season 1 followed Josh and Melissa, a couple played by Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key, who sought to go on a trip to reinvigorate their relationship. They stumbled upon a magical town called Schmigadoon (a spoof of the Lerner and Loewe musical Brigadoon) whose inhabitants behave like they were part of a studio musical from the 1940s. Musicals that were referenced in the first season included Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel, The Music Man, Guys and Dolls, and South Pacific, among many others.
In Season 2, Josh and Melissa miss the magic they felt in Schmigadoon and in an attempt to return, find themselves in Schmicago—the reimagined world of ’60s and ’70s musicals. The new season will include new original musical numbers from co-creator and executive producer Cinco Paul, as well as returning stars Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit, with the addition of Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page.
Audiences can find references from Sweeney Todd, Pippin, Chicago, Cabaret, A Chorus Line, Oliver!, Annie, Hair, and Sweet Charity in the new trailer. The upcoming season, which will start streaming on Apple TV+ in April 5, will have 6 episodes.
