Now Streaming: ‘King Lear’ Shakespeare in the Park Production is Online

Shakespeare in the Park’s most recent production, King Lear is now streaming online for free.

Starring Hadestown’s André De Shields, the production was staged from June 2-27, 2021 at the Shakespeare Glen, Forest Park in the US with more than 17,000 people. It was one of the first live theater events in their country following the COVID-19 shutdowns.

Joining De Shields in the cast are Brian Anthony Wilson, Allen Gilmore, J. Samuel Davis, Nicole King, Rayme Cornell, Jacqueline Thompson, Daniel José Molina, Leland Fowler, Jason J. Little, Carl Overly, Jr., Michael Tran, Kentrell Jamison, Theorri London, Brian McKinley, Tyler White, and Christina Yancy.

The production is directed by Carl Cofield, with scenic design by Wilson Chin, costume design by Mika Eubanks, music and sound design by David R. Molina, and lighting design by John Wylie. The film is directed and edited by Colin O’Brien, with Phillip Hamer serving as director of photography.

The stream is best for audiences aged 12 and up as it includes depictions of physical violence and the presence of firearms. Audiences can watch the stream until August 1 by signing up HERE. While free, there is a $20 suggested donation amount per viewing.
