It looks like Disney kids are in for another Broadway treat! Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken has revealed that he is working on a stage adaptation of the animated film ‘Hercules’. Menken wrote the score and composed the songs with Tony-nominated lyricist David Zipper for the movie, which was released in 1997. Their song “Go The Distance”, which was performed in the film by Tony winner Roger Bart, was nominated for a Goldern Globe and Academy Award. The movie featured the voices of Tate Donovan as Hercules, Danny DeVito as Phil, James Woods as Hades, Susan Egan as Meg, and Tony winner LaChanze as one of the Muses.

According to Broadway.com, Menken shared the news in an interview for a California publication about his upcoming solo show, ‘A Whole New World of Alan Menken’, at Disney’s D23 Expo. Although a Disney Theatrical Productions representative has not confirmed if the production is in development, it could follow in the footsteps of popular animation-to-stage adaptations such as ‘Anastacia’ and ‘The Lion King’, and the upcoming Frozen.

No further details are available at the moment, and only time will tell if this effort will find a hero’s welcome on Broadway.
