The Tempest and The Taming of the Shrew will be streaming for free on the Broadway on Demand platform today until tomorrow.

The Tempest

The Tempest is set on a magical island where the sorcerer Prospero, his daughter Miranda, and Prospero’s servants, Ariel and Caliban reside. A shipwreck brings familiar faces to the island and Prospero decides to right an injustice done to him in the past while setting the stage for a future romance between his daughter and the young Ferdinand. Meanwhile, Caliban plots to regain his freedom only to be thwarted by Ariel.

This 2017 production was directed by Antoni Cimolino and Barry Avrich and starred Martha Henry, Graham Abbey, Michael Blake, Sébastien Heins, and Mamie Zwettler.

The Taming of the Shrew

The Taming of the Shrew tells the tale of the fractious courtship between the titular shrew, Katherina Minola, a noblewoman notorious for her headstrong spirit, and the sly Petruchio, who is challenged to win her heart. Meanwhile, other suitors pursue her younger sister, Bianca, who is not allowed to marry until her older sister is wed.

This 2020 production was directed by Chris Abraham and Barry Avrich and starred Ben Carlson, Christopher Sly, Deborah Hay, Sarah Afful, Peter Hutt, Cyrus Lane, Gordon S. Miller, Tom Rooney, and Mike Shara.
