Dulaang UP’s ‘Fuente Ovejuna’ Now Streaming
Dulaang UP’s Fuente Ovejuna is now streaming online.
The production ran from November 8 to December 1, 2019 at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater of UP Diliman as part of the company’s 44th season. Fuente Ovejuna is believed to have been written by Spanish dramatist Lope De Vega between 1612-1614 and is translated to Filipino by Nicolas Pichay for the Dulaang UP production. Based upon a historical incident that took place in the village of “Fuente Ovejuna” in Castile in 1476, the play deals with the uprising of a village against a feudal overlord, the cruel and sex-crazed Commendador Fernan Gomez De Guzman. The aggrieved villagers of Fuente Ovejuna bond together and kill the cruel autocrat in order to end their misery.
The streaming production was filmed from the December 1, 2019, 7pm performance featuring George de Jesus III (King Fernando), Adriana Agcaoili (Queen Isabel), Christian Barinaga (Master), Leo Rialp (Commendador), Greg De Leon (Don Manrique), Brian Arda (Flores), Arvin Trinidad (Ortuño), Jojo Cayabyab (Esteban), Bong Antonio (Alonso), Hariette Damole (Laurencia), Chloe Rialp (Pascuala), Zheglayne Arban (Jacinta), Francis Mata (Juan Rojo), Allan Palileo (Judge), Ross Pesigan (Frondoso), Dolly Dolot (Mengo), Fred Layno (Barrildo), Migo Santiago (Leonelo), Jake Dangco (Cimbranos / Soldier), Kiko de Paz (1st Alderman), Renzo dela Peña (2nd Alderman), and Miguel Bongato, George Magsayo, Aaron Comandante, Julia Chua, Ela Figura, Johnny Maglinao, Janna Cortes, and Nikka De Torres as members of the ensemble.
The play is directed by the late Tony Mabesa.
