“School of Rock” is Coming to Solaire
According to the video wall at the lobby of The Theatre at Solaire, the international tour of School of Rock will be the next musical to be playing at the venue.
Based on the 2003 movie written by Mike White and starring Jack Black, School of Rock follows failed, wannabe rock star Dewey Finn who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. He turns a class of straight-A fifth graders into a rock band, in an attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands contest. The music is written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Julian Fellowes.
The musical opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre on December 6, 2015, and in the West End on November 14, 2016. It features 14 new songs as well as all the original songs from the feature film. It was nominated for 4 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, in 2016, and 3 Olivier Awards in 2017, winning Outstanding Achievement in Music.
Casting, running dates, and ticketing information will be announced soon.
