“The Little Mermaid” LIVE casts its Ariel
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho will be playing Ariel in ABC’s upcoming live concert of “The Little Mermaid”. She will be joined by Queen Latifah, who will be playing Ursula, and Shaggy as Sebastian.
The production was initially slated for 2017 as part of “The Wonderful World of Disney” franchise, but has since been postponed. It is now set to air in the US television network on November 5. As previously reported, the show will be weaving together Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s songs from the original 1989 animated Disney movie, as well as songs from the Broadway production, where Glenn Slater also served as lyricist.
Further casting details have yet to be announced.
Disney has also announced its casting for “The Little Mermaid” live action remake, where Halle Bailey will be playing Ariel alongside Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
