Sara Bareilles Coming Back to Waitress for Limited Engagement!

Waitress’ very own composer and lyricist, Grammy-nominated songwriter Sara Bareilles, will be coming back to reprise her role as Jenna Hunterson on January 2018! This news comes after it was announced that current lead star Betsy Wolfe will be playing her final performance on January 9.

In this video that she just released a few hours ago, she announces that she will be sharing the stage with current leading man Jason Mraz for 2 weeks starting January 16 and will continue on to play the role with a different co-star until February 15, 2018.

Bareilles and Mraz’s tandem will be interesting to watch as they have already collaborated for Bareilles’ 2015 album ‘What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress’, where they duetted on ‘Bad Idea’ and the poignant ‘You Matter To Me’.

Bareilles had already played the role for a limited six-week engagement from March 31 to June 11 earlier this year after the departure of original star Jessie Mueller.

Waitress was nominated for Best Musical, Best Original Score (Sara Bareilles), Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical (Jessie Mueller), and Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical at last year’s Tony Awards. It was also nominated for Best Musical Theater Album at this year’s Grammy Awards.

Based on the 2007 movie of the same name, Waitress is a musical about Jenna Hunterson, a waitress stuck in an unhappy marriage with her husband Earl. The musical follows her on her journey to taking back her life and her independence.
