“Passion” set for Manila staging this September
The Philippine Opera Company is staging Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Passion’ this September at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of the RCBC Plaza.
‘Passion’ is a one-act musical written by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and James Lapine (book). Set in Italy, the story is about a young soldier and his obsessive love for Fosca, his colonel’s sickly cousin. It won the Tony Award for Best Musical, among others, when it opened on Broadway in 1994.
For those interested, the Philippine Opera Company is holding open auditions on February 5, 10am to 8pm, at the Opera Haus (3657 Bautista St., Palanan, Makati). All roles are open to male and female 19 years old and above. Participants are required to come prepared to sing any piece from a classic musical. They’re also required to bring a 3R (headshot) photo, resume, as well as sheet music. A Pianist will be in the venue.
