PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association) is one of the recipients of this year’s prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award. The award is quite auspicious as the company also celebrates its 50th year milestone this year. It’s being awarded together with Lilia de Lima, PEZA (Philippine Economic Zone Authority)’s first Director-General who’s being recognized for “her unstinting, sustained leadership in building a credible and efficient PEZA… “, and other awardees from other countries including Yoshiaiki Ishizawa from Japan, Abdon Nababan from Indonesia, and Gethsie Shanmugam from Sri Lanka.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award is Asia’s premier prize and highest honor that celebrates greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia. The foundation has given recognition to over 300 selfless and outstanding men, women, and organizations in the past 50 years.
Changing Partners is Hitting the Big Screen
Last April, ABS-CBN News announced that Changing Partners was one of the finalists of this year’s Cinema One Originals Film Festival. The production started out as a staged-reading at the 2016 Virgin Labfest and was transferred to the PETA Theater Center for a limited run later in the year. The musical’s book, music, and lyrics were written by Vincent de Jesus and directed by Rem Zamora.
The production, whose cast included Agot Isidro, Sandino Martin, Anna Luna, and Jojit Lorenzo, was met with critical acclaim. Based on the photo posted by director Dan Villegas on his Instagram account, looks like they will be retaining the same cast for the movie.
Maynila: sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag will be Coming to the Stage
Maynila: sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag, the iconic 1975 film directed by late National Artist for Film Lino Brocka, will now be made into a musical!
According to Clickthecity, auditions for the musical were held last June 16.
In a poster on its official Facebook page, and in an Instagram post by theater veteran Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, the production will be directed by Joel Lamangan, libretto written by Jose Victor Z. Torres, music composed by Von de Guzman, and choreography made by Douglas Nierras.
The material focuses on the life of Julio Madiaga, an innocent probinsyano who wandered to Manila to find and rescue his beloved, Ligaya.
