Historical Musicals ‘Mabining Mandirigma’, ‘Aurelio Sedisyoso’ set to Rerun Next Year
Tanghalang Pilipino is set to re-stage two of its original musicals next year, both about the lives of historical figures with a significant political past. ‘Mabining Mandirigma’ and ‘Aurelio Sedisyoso’ are set to run from August to September at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater).
Mabining Mandirigma, the steampunk musical about the life of Apolinario Mabini, starts off in 1898, where Mabini acts as Adviser, Cabinet President, and first Foreign Minister to President Aguinaldo. He displays a warrior spirit that belies his paralytic body and a principled character that could not be compromised. The 2019 run will star Monique Wilson (Miss Saigon, The Vagina Monologues) in the titular role. The musical was first staged in 2015 starring Delphine Buencamino, and again in 2016 starring Liesl Batucan. Arman Ferrer will be reprising his role as Emilio Aguinaldo.
Aurelio Sedisyoso, the rock sarswela about the life of playwright Aurelio Tolentino, is set from 1902-1915 during the third phase of the Philippine revolution. The returning musical will feature Monique’s brother, theater thespian and director Jamie Wilson (All Out of Love, Matilda), in his first role with the company. He will be playing Tikbalang, the character previously essayed by Baron Geisler and Jonathan Tadioan. David Ezra will be reprising his role as Aurelio Tolentino. The show ran from September 1-17 last year.
Both productions are helmed by the same creative team– Chris Millado serves as director, with book and lyrics by Nicanor Tiongson, music by Joed Balsamo, and set design by Toym Imao.
The show is open for showbuying. Interested parties may contact Enzo Marco at 0999-8843821.
