“Hamilton” to Stream on Disney+
Lin-Manuel Miranda just announced on Twitter that the filmed version of Hamilton will be stream on Disney+ starting July 3.
Unfortunately, the streaming service has yet to be available in the country. Fingers crossed that we get it soon!
The film features original cast members Lin-Manuel Miranda as the titular role, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Christopher Jackson as George Washington, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette / Thomas Jefferson, Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan / James Madison, Anthony Ramos as John Laurens / Philip Hamilton, Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler / Maria Reynolds, and Jonathan Groff as King George III.
The cast also includes Carleigh Bettiol, Ariana DeBose, Hope Easterbrook, Sydney James Harcourt, Sasha Hutchings, Thayne Jasperson, Elizabeth Judd, Jon Rua, Austin Smith, Seth Stewart, and Ephraim Sykes.
As previously reported, the production is a filmed version of a stage performance at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Miranda mentioned in a video feature with Variety that “We filmed the show with the original cast the week before the beginning cast members began to leave the show… What I’m most excited about, is there will be a point at which, you all have that friend that is like, ‘I saw it with the original cast.'”
It was originally announced that the filmed version would be released in US cinemas on October 15, 2021.
Hamilton opened on August 6, 2015 on Broadway and received a record-breaking 16 Tony nominations. It won 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score for Miranda.
