5 University-Based Productions Live and Online this October to November 2022
The university theater scene will have both online and live performances this October to November, featuring both professional and student artists across the academe.
1. Pamana by Artistang Artlets (ONLINE)
Artistang Artlets, the Official Theatre Guild of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Santo Tomas, begins its 42nd season with a streaming production of Pamana, written by Aaron Roi I. Del Rosario and Kevin Christian S. Crisolo.
Ang kwentong ito ay tungkol sa tatlong magkakapatid – sina Matmat, Jhe, at Ikay – na may iisang hangarin: ang mabuo ang beach house na pamana ng kanilang mga magulang. Dahil sa takot na bunga ng mahabang panahon na magkakahiwalay sila sa isa’t isa, at sa iba pang hadlang na kanilang haharapin, magagawa ba nilang magkaisa muli?
It is directed by Isabelle Laurente and produced by Jemina Rose Macasaet. The show will run on October 28 and 29, 2022, to be live-streamed on Artistang Artlets’ Facebook page at 7pm.
2. Kayumanggi ang Kulay ng Araw by Teatro Rizal (LIVE)
Teatro Rizal will be staging Kayumanggi ang Kulay ng Araw at the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Auditorium on October 28, 29, November 4, 5.
May mga pwersang mas makapangyarihan pa kaysa sa mga taong nagpapagalaw ng ating bayan, pamilya, at desisyong pangsarili. Naniniwala tayo na nag pagsikat at paglubog ng araw ay may parehong ikot ng buhay ng tao. Si Makario, Lukas, at Elisa ay pare-parehong naniniwala dito. Sa kapangyarihan ng paniniwala at pag-ibig. May mga saya mula sa pagkakaibigang di sinasadya ito ang kanilang kwento sa harap ng kayumangging araw.
The play with music is written by Ejay Villafania and Armando Mansilungan, with original music by John Kenneth Dael. It is directed by Ejay Villafania.

3. Indayugang Banal: Isang Superpowered Komedya by Maiba 18 (LIVE AND ONLINE)
Maiba 18 Productions and Teatro 77 will be staging Carlo Vergara’s Indayugang Banal: Isang Superpowered Komedya live and online this November.
In a time and place similar to our own, masked hero Buana rids the city of criminals and aswangs. A young Lourdes Remedios dreams of becoming a successful vlogger and content creator despite her insecurities. All things seem to be going in their favor through the love and support of Lourdes’ boyfriend Paolo, while Buana’s fame grows daily on social media with the help of her savvy sister Tala. But when Paolo reveals a strange and unsettling truth, Lourdes finds herself questioning her love. Meanwhile, the creatures of the city rise in power and Buana fears that alone, she might be incapable of stopping evil. In an extricable web where superheroics and mythologies combine, can the power of faith and fans save the city from the evil that haunts it?
The show will be directed by Tuxqs Rutaquio, with dramaturgy by Dominique La Victoria. It will be staged live on November 10, 17, and 24 for P300 at the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, Design and Arts Campus’ Theater and online via Ticket2Me from November 21 – 27, 2022 for P280.
4. Hamlet by MINTeatro (LIVE)
MINTeatro, MINT College’s official theater arts organization, will be staging William Shakespeare’s Hamlet this November, its second live play since the pandemic. It will be using the original edited text by Jaime Del Mundo in a new version by Nelsito Gomez, and directed by Nelsito Gomez, featuring an all student cast.
Honoring the 1994 production of Hamlet by the Actor’s Actors Foundation, Inc (AAI). MinTeatro presents this version of Hamlet in the same minimalist, modern day setting, eschewing any over elaborate costumes or sets. Their goal is to augment the imaginative, engaging, and inviting setup AAI had, while at the same time sparking from within the audience a desire and appreciation for classical plays, especially the work of William Shakespeare.
The show will run on November 11 and 18, 7pm and November 12 and 19, 3pm and 7pm at the MINT College Mckinley Campus. P300 for outsiders, P280 for MINT students, and P250 for members of MINTeatro.
5. The Reconciliation Dinner by Dulaang UP (LIVE)
Dulaang UP returns to the live stage with a new one-act play by Floy Quintos entitled
The Reconciliation Dinner, directed by Dexter M. Santos.In The Kundiman Party, playwright Floy Quintos examined the role of the Artist and Civil Society during the Duterte administration. His new play is also very much set in the present and deals with the same milieux. In the aftermath of the 2022 elections, a group of friends gather to try and heal the divides caused by their own political affiliations. The dinner results in life-altering choices for all of them. The play asks, what role does civil society play in a world where its power for change has become so diminished? More pointedly, the play asks, What price, Unity?
The play will be featuring performances by Frances Makil-Ignacio, Stella Cañete- Mendoza, Nelsito Gomez, Juliene Mendoza, Randy Medel Villarama, Phi Palmos, and Hariette Mozelle.
