“West Side Story” Movie Adaptation Sets Release Date

Disney has announced the release date of the Steven Spielberg movie adaptation of “West Side Story”. The Ansel Elgort-led film is set to arrive on December 18, 2020 in US cinemas.

As previously reported, joining Elgort (as Tony) in the film are Rachel Zegler (Maria), Mike Faist (Riff), Ariana DeBose (Anita), David Alvarez (Bernardo), Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino), Rita Moreno (Valentina), Puerto Rican singer and dancer Ana Isabelle (Rosalia), Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank), and Brian dʼArcy James (Sergeant Krupke).

Tony Kushner is adapting the screenplay from the original 1957 Broadway musical by Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein, and Stephen Sondheim. Spielberg is directing and co-producing (with Kevin McCollum and Kristie Macosko Krieger) the film for 20th Century Fox.
