To kick-off the Yuletide dance holiday season, the Philippine Ballet Theatre (PBT) comes back with its annual reprise of this Christmas ballet favorite at the CCP Main Theater.
The time old classic Nutcracker ballet has become a tried and tested tradition for ballet enthusiasts. It is special not only because of the celebrated music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, but also because this version was actually created specifically for PBT by world renowned Prima Ballerina Gelsey Kirkland.
The Nutcracker has proven to be one of the company’s protected gems. It comes back every season with a deeper appreciation of the story and a greater mastery of the the technical requirements of the ballet. Audience will be enthralled by the colorful, larger-than-life scenery, with toys coming alive, snowflakes swirling around and flowers waltzing about.

A fresh, talented new cast will also be debuting in the principal roles. World Ballet Competition’s 4th place winner Veronica Atienza will debut as Sugarplum Fairy and CCP Ballet Competition’s third place winner Matthew Davo will take on the role of the Nutcracker Prince. Regina Magbitang will reprise her role as Clara.
A portion of the proceeds of the show will benefit their Cultural Outreach Education Program (CORE), an educational outreach in the form of free ballet classes in public schools nationwide, and performances to thousands of school children and provincial communities.
