Eclipsed, the play starring Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o, was nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Play. The show only won in one category, and that was Best Costume Design of a Play. The man behind the win is Cebuano Clint Ramos, who is also an alumnus of Dulaang UP. Born and raised in Cebu, Philippines, Ramos went on to study at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Ramos’ work has resulted in what is surely an incredibly long and impressive resume. His work in American theater includes costume design for productions on Broadway, the Public Theater, Roundabout Theater, Lincoln Centre Theater, and countless others. His most recent work includes the Broadway productions of Violet and The Elephant Man starring Bradley Cooper, and the latest run of Little Shop of Horrors starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ellen Greene. Ramos also worked on the costumes for Frozen: Live at the Hyperion, in Disney’s California Adventure Park. Ramos also holds many awards for his work, including the OBIE Award, Drama Desk Award, and Lucille Lortel Award, among others.

Eclipsed ends it run on Broadway this coming Sunday, June 19. If you missed this production, do not fear. You can still catch Ramos’ Tony-winning costumes when the production lands at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco next spring.
