The official trailer of the live action of Disney’s The Little Mermaid was just released at this morning’s Oscars broadcast, which is currently streaming live at Disney+.

The Little Mermaid, Disney’s live action remake of its 1989 animated classic, based on the 1837 Danish fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen, tells the story of Ariel, a sixteen year old mermaid princess who dreams of becoming human. She makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula to trade her voice for a pair of human legs. With the help of her friends, Ariel must defeat Ursula and win back her voice before it‘s too late

The upcoming live action film stars Halle Bailey as Ariel. She is joined by Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.

Directed by Rob Marshall, the film will feature songs from the animated hit (by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken) as well as new songs from Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. According to clickthecity.com, it is set to open in Philippine cinemas on May 24, 2023.
