WATCH: ‘MJ the Musical’ Opening Number is Online
Watch Michael Jackson’s classic hit, “Beat It,” as you’ve never seen it before, as the opening number for MJ the Musical.
MJ the Musical was originally scheduled to premiere on Broadway in mid-2020 but this was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show finally opened at the Neil Simon Theatre on February 1, 2022.
Featuring more than 25 of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits and a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, MJ the Musical centers on the iconic singer’s career, specifically as he prepares for the 1992 Dangerous World Tour. The first act shows his early years with The Jackson 5 and the second act gives an in-depth look at his process and how he and his collaborators rehearse the epic setlist for the 1992 tour.
The show is directed by Tony Award-winner Christopher Wheeldon and stars Myles Frost in the title role. Other cast members include Quentin Earl Darrington, Whitney Bashor, Gabriel Ruíz, Antione L. Smith, Joey Sorge, John Edwards, Ayana George, Apollo Levine, Tavon Olds-Sample,Christian Vance/Walter Russell III, Lamont Walker II, Zelig Williams, and Raymond Baynard.
As Broadway reopens after the pandemic-induced two year hiatus, clips of new or returning shows have been posted online such as this and the opening number of Beetlejuice and Company. This is to celebrate Broadway’s return and to give audiences a taste of what they can enjoy if they return to the theater.
