Lionsgate, Roadside Attractions and LD Entertainment have released the first official teaser trailer to the movie adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Based on the 1993 stage musical that was itself an adaptation of the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig, the movie is set in an Argentinian prison in 1981 and revolves around the experiences of two cell mates: Valentín (played by Diego Luna), a political prisoner, and Molina (played by Tonatiuh), a window dresser convicted of public indecency. They form an unlikely bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring his favorite silver screen diva, Ingrid Luna (played by Jennifer Lopez). The movie was written for the screen and directed by Bill Condon (Chicago, Dreamgirls).

The stage musical had music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, (Cabaret, Chicago) and a book by Terrence McNally (Master Class, Ragtime). It opened on Broadway in 1993 and went on to win seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Costume Design, as well as acting awards for all three principals in the cast (Chita Rivera, Brent Carver, and Anthony Crivello).

In 2020, a special episode of the musical television series, Katy Keene, centered on a production of the musical. The cast members performed songs from the show including “Dressing Them Up,” “Where You Are,” “You Could Never Shame Me,” and the titular song.

The show was staged locally in 2000 by Repertory Philippines.

The film is set to be released in US cinemas on October 10, 2025. You can watch the teaser trailer below.
