The live capture of Waitress the Musical starring Sara Bareilles as Jenna Hunterson, which was filmed when the production returned to Broadway in 2021, has just announced its official streaming date in the US.

The proshot first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City last June, followed by a theatrical release in the US last December. The capture will be available in the US to stream digitally on demand on Amazon and Apple starting on January 9. It is currently available to pre-order for $14.99.

Also featured in the cast are Drew Gehling as Dr. Pomatter, Charity Angél Dawson as Becky, Caitlin Houlahan as Dawn, Christopher Fitzgerald as Ogie, Eric Anderson as Cal, Dakin Matthews as Joe, and Joe Tippett as Earl. Bareilles also wrote the music and lyrics for the musical, with a book by Jessie Nelson. It is directed by Diane Paulus.

Based on the 2007 film of the same name written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress follows Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage. The stage production opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Broadway in April 2016 and closed on January 5, 2020. It reopened on September 2021 for a limited run starring Bareilles as Jenna mainly to produce the live stage recording. It was nominated for 4 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Musical Score by Bareilles.
