Tina Fey Musical TV Show to Star Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and more
Tina Fey will be executive producing a musical comedy series called Girls5Eva for NBCU’s upcoming streaming platform, Peacock.
The series was created and written by Meredith Scardino (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and is a comedy about a one-hit-wonder girl group from the ‘90s who reunite many years later to reignite their dreams of fame and fortune. But the road to pop stardom is far more complicated when the band members are already grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents, and shoulder pain.
Girls5Eva boasts of a cast of Broadway stars including Tony winner Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton), Tony nominee Sara Bareilles (Waitress), Tony nominee Ashley Park (Mean Girls), Busy Philipps (Cougar Town), and Paula Pell (Saturday Night Live).
According to a report by Deadline, the show will be produced under Fey’s Little Stranger banner as well as Bevel Gears, Jeff Richmond, 3 Arts’ David Miner and Eric Gurian. It will be filmed for Universal Television and Kat Coiro is set to direct the pilot. So far no other casting or plot details have been revealed.
