The Playbook Club’s All-Female ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ Returns This August
The Playbook Club returns to the stage this August with a revival of its 2023 all-female production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Returning cast members from the original run include Nikki Bengzon, Dippy Arceo, Barbara Jance, Chez Cuenca, Teia Contreras, Giselle Giorgia, and Enna Yap. Additional cast members and production details will be announced this July.
This new staging reimagines Shakespeare’s classic comedy, leaning into its whimsy and unpredictability. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is part of the company’s flagship program, Groundlings, which seeks to bring audiences closer to classical and Shakespearean texts. Previous Groundlings productions include Love On Stage, presented in partnership with Greenbelt for Valentine’s Day, and a Shakespeare performance at the Casa Gorordo Museum in Cebu.
Written by William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows four young lovers and a group of amateur actors whose lives become entangled with a mischievous fairy world. The play explores themes of love, illusion, and the unpredictable nature of human desire.
The Playbook Club (PBC) is a grassroots production house that stages theater productions, produces short films, and hosts monthly script-reading nights. In addition to managing its pool of artists, the company also provides casting services for films, music videos, theater productions, and TV commercials. Its most recent production was the 2025 twin bill First Love, Last Love, featuring the original plays Napapanahon and CoR by playwright Rafael Jimenez.
The production opens on August 22 at The Mirror Theatre Studio on Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City. Ticket sales begin this July. Follow PBC on Instagram (@playbook_club) and on Facebook (The Playbook Club) for more updates.
