‘Sandosenang Sapatos’ Goes to Bohol and Antipolo

Tanghalang Pilipino’s Sandosenang Sapatos, which ran last November 17 to December 2 at the CCP Black Box Theater, is going on tour.

The company will be bringing the show to Jagna, Bohol on December 15 and 16, 6pm at the Jagna Cultural Center. It will be followed by a tour in January 22 to 24, 8am and 1pm at the Assumpta Theater, Assumption Antipolo.

The 2023 revival of  Sandosenang Sapatos is a musical that follows Susie, a child who wishes to fulfill her shoemaker father’s dream of having a ballerina for a daughter. Unfortunately, the child was born without her lower limbs.

Each year, on her birthday, the child enters the world of enchanting shoes, where the Shoe Fairy gives her a pair of feet, allowing her to dance to her heart’s desire. However, every time she leaves the enchanting world, she loses her feet and faces her father’s disappointment. It takes a tragedy for her to truly understand the depths of her father’s love.

Wincess Jem Yana will be starring as Susie in Bohol, while both Yana and Felicity Kyle Napuli will be reprising the role in Antipolo. They are joined by Floyd Tena as Tatay and Tex Ordoñez-De Leon as Nanay. Heart Puyong will be playing Ate Karina in Bohol, and Mica Fajardo will be reprising the role in Antipolo.

Also in the cast are Marynor Madamesila as Diwata, Natasha Cabrera as Yellowy, Lance Soliman as Red, MC Dela Cruz as Bluey, Bea Remollo as Maong, Steven Hotchkiss as Pinky, Patricia Rolda as Sequins, Sarah Monay as Whitey, Mark Lorenz as One, Lhorvie Nuevo-Tadioan as Two, Francis Gatmaytan as Three, and Paula Espinola as Ballerina. Paw Castillo will be playing the role of Sandals in Bohol, while Mark Grantos will be reprising the role in Antipolo.

Sandosenang Sapatos was last staged by the company in 2014. Written by Layeta Bucoy based on the short story by Dr. Luis Gatmaitan, the musical features music by Joed Balsamo and Noel Cabangon. Joed Balsamo also serves as the musical director and music arranger. The show is directed by Jonathan Tadioan, with choreography by Stephen Viñas, production design by Marco Viaña and Paw Castillo, lighting design by Gabo Tolentino, and sound design by TJ Ramos.

Musicians for the show are Joed Balsamo (piano), TJ Ramos (guitar), and RJ Alfafara (beatbox).
