Reb Atadero to Read in Samalamig Cold Readings Season 3 Premiere; Featured Plays Announced
Samalamig Cold Readings returns for its third season on May 20, 2026, 7:30 PM at Sine Pop, Cubao together with previously announced guest reader Reb Atadero.
The upcoming event will serve as the first installment of the third season. Previous guest readers included Gab Pangilinan for the second season and Phi Palmos for the first.
Following a call for script submissions, three stories were selected for the upcoming event: Paboreal, a drama by Matt Ordonez; Ang Trahedya ng Kamote, a mystery by M. Manalastas; and dystopian sex comedy Planet Bang! by Rhain Alcoriza.
Meanwhile, the featured second-act play is Lia de Jesus’ Questions, which won First Place for One-Act Plays at the 41st Gawad Ustetika. De Jesus was previously featured in Samalamig’s first season when her play Need was selected as a first-act piece.
Co-produced by Carl Cuevas and Gelo Esperanzate, Samalamig Cold Readings has continued to establish itself as a space for playwrights and audiences to engage with new theatrical works through live cold readings and post-reading discussions. Since its launch in 2024, the initiative has focused on presenting original scripts by aspiring, emerging, and professional Filipino playwrights while encouraging open dialogue between creators and viewers.
Each Samalamig Cold Readings session features selected scripts performed live by audience members alongside the featured artist. The readings are followed by short talkback sessions where playwrights receive immediate audience responses, technical feedback, and insights on their work.
Beyond providing a platform for aspiring, emerging, and professional playwrights and scriptwriters, Samalamig Cold Readings has also continued to champion Filipino stories through special collaborations. One recent example was a special Samalamig session with Palanca-winning playwright Dustin Celestino and his film production company Sine Metu, held to raise funds for their upcoming 2026 Cinemalaya film, a.ni.mál.
Early Bird tickets for the May 20 Samalamig Cold Readings event are currently on sale via the group’s Google Form for P800 until May 19, while walk-in tickets will be available at the venue for P1,000.
