‘Muli: An OPM Musical’ Releases 2 Songs Online

Two songs from Muli: An OPM Musical have been released online as the original Filipino musical begins its three-weekend run at the Globe Auditorium, Maybank Performing Arts Theater.

Iba’t Ibang Mundo” and “Ya Girl,” the first two songs in the musical’s 11-song score, are now available on digital streaming platforms, including Spotify.

In the musical, “Iba’t Ibang Mundo” is performed by Young Anita (Felicity Kyle Napuli), Anita (Kakki Teodoro), and the ensemble, while “Ya Girl” is performed by Anita, Juls (Justine Peña), Detski (Marynor Madamesila), and the ensemble.

Muli follows Anita (Kakki Teodoro), a 42-year-old housewife who has spent the last two decades building her life around her family. With her daughter Kath (Janine Teñoso) now grown and much of her youth behind her, Anita is given the chance to experience the different lives she might have lived, including the success, love, and happiness she once imagined for herself, as well as the consequences that come with them.

The musical features 11 original songs, with music by FlipMusic’s Nica del Rosario and Matthew Chang and lyrics by Charissa Pammit and Jose Paolo dela Cruz. The songs span different eras and genres of OPM, including FlipTop-style hip-hop, acoustic music, and ’90s bubblegum pop.

Directed by Andrei Pamintuan, the show features book and lyrics by Charissa Pammit (who also serves as executive producer) and Jose Paolo dela Cruz, with music by Nica del Rosario and Matthew Chang, who also serve as musical directors. Joining them on the artistic team are Gabbi Campomanes (assistant director), Julian Abuda (choreographer), D Cortezano (lighting and set designer), Z Almeda (assistant set designer), Rafa Sumilong (associate lighting designer), Santi Obcena (costume designer), Jodinand Aguillon (wardrobe stylist), Harly Daria (hair and makeup designer), Sarah Facuri (video designer), Arvy Dimaculangan (sound designer), Julian Hernandez (sound engineer), and Jumbo de Belen (music producer).

The cast is led by Kakki Teodoro as Anita and Janine Teñoso as Kath. They are joined by Vien King as Ian, Marvin Ong as Maki, Justine Peña as Juls, Marynor Madamesila as Detski, and social media creator and Dog Show host Baus Rufo as Mito, who makes his professional theater debut.

Completing the ensemble are Raflesia Bravo, Harly Daria, Jon Abella, Gabo Tiongson, Elian Dominguez, Miah Canton (also understudying Kath), and Matel Patayon (also understudying Anita).
