Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante Joins ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ Manila Run
Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante is set to play Sandra in the Manila premiere of The Play That Goes Wrong, which runs from November 6 to 22 at The Theatre at Solaire.
Bradshaw-Volante will play a leading member of the fictional Cornley Drama Society who takes on the role of Florence Colleymoore in the company’s increasingly disastrous staging of a 1920s murder mystery.
She joins a cast of performers from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. The principal cast also includes Tom Babbage as Chris, Owen Jenkins as Robert, Sebastiano Pitruzzello as Max, Liam Horrigan as Jonathan, Tom Hayward as Dennis, Olivia Charalambous as Annie, Jake Curran as Trevor, and Stephanie Astrid as the female understudy. The production is directed by Hannah Sharkey.
Most recently, Bradshaw-Volante played Antonia in Man of La Mancha. Her other theater credits include Come From Away, Carrie Pipperidge in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel, for which she received her first Gawad Buhay Award for Female Featured Performance in a Musical, Johanna in Sweeney Todd, Cynthia Weil in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Lauren in Kinky Boots, Medium Alison in Fun Home, Annette in the Asian tour of Saturday Night Fever, Barbara Smith in Run for Your Wife, Carrie in Carrie the Musical, and Liesl in The Sound of Music.
“For GMG Productions, this casting is deeply personal. Seeing Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, a Filipino artist of extraordinary calibre, who was also a member of our Filipino-led production of Come From Away, and who brings such a hilarious, unhinged spirit to the stage, stepping into one of theatre’s most iconic roles fills us with pride,” says GMG Productions CEO and Founder Carlos Candal.
“Bringing her together with world-class performers from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States is exactly what we set out to do when we founded GMG: to give Filipino audiences the chance to experience theatre at the highest level, with one of our own shining at its heart.
“If this company were any more international, we’d need subtitles; luckily, the chaos of The Play That Goes Wrong needs no translation at all.”
Created by Mischief’s Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, The Play That Goes Wrong follows the Cornley Drama Society as it attempts to stage The Murder at Haversham Manor, a 1920s murder mystery. As opening night unfolds, however, everything that can go wrong does: the set collapses, props disappear, cues are missed, and lines are forgotten as the performers try to keep the show going.
The Play That Goes Wrong, which won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2015 and the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design of a Play in 2017, has since been staged around the world and continues to run in London’s West End.
The show runs from November 6 to 22 at The Theatre at Solaire, Solaire Resort Entertainment City, Parañaque City.
