As previously reported, the Mean Girls Broadway musical is being adapted into a movie by Paramount Pictures.

Today, it has been announced that Reneé Rapp (Mean Girls on Broadway, The Sex Lives of College Girls), Auli’i Cravalho (Disney’s Moana, Rise), Angourie Rice (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Mare of Easttown), and Jaquel Spivey (Broadway’s A Strange Loop) have been cast as Cady Heron, Regina George, Janis Ian, and Damian, respectively, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rapp returns to reprise her role as Regina George on Broadway, a role she took on after replacing original Broadway cast member Taylor Louderman.

The story follows Cady Heron, a girl who grew up on an African savanna. However, nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams starred as Cady Heron and Regina George respectively in the original 2004 film. Tina Fey, who wrote the book for the Broadway musical and the screenplay for the original film, returns to write the movie musical’s script, with music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. Lorne Michaels will return to produce with Fey. Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. are set to direct.
