What is ‘Batang Rizal’?

It’s a musical that focuses on the lesser-told story of the National Hero’s childhood. Based on a book by Christine Bellen and co-written, directed for stage, and choreographed by Dudz Teraña, with musical direction, arrangement, and composition by Vincent A. DeJesus.


It’s a story based on historical facts, with fantasy elements as the child Jose Rizal meets a child from the present. He also travels to contemporary times and realizes that he is destined to become a hero.

It will be in Filipino. There will be English subtitles.

Is the show also staged live in person?

Nope, this is a pre-recorded stream of the show filmed by the production. 

However, this same production will have a very limited staging on November 25 and December 2 this year at PETA Theater Center which will be open to live audiences.
