10 years ago, Ateneo blueREP staged the Asian premiere of Disney’s High School Musical (HSM) at SM Megamall. Fresh off from its TV-movie premiere in 2006 and its sequel in 2007, the HSM phenomenon was at its height in those days, and it was considered a massive feat for a collegiate theater organization to have even been given the rights to stage it (much more to have been the first ones to bring it into the region). Unsurprisingly, it has been known as one of blueREP’s biggest and most profitable shows to date.

During that run, Mako Alonso played Troy Bolton and TV personality and stage actress Karel Marquez played Gabriella Montez.

Akin to the Carpool Karaoke feature popularized by The Late Late Show host James Corden, blueREP alumni and High School Musical cast mates Mako Alonso, Reb Atadero, and Kakki Teodoro came together to sing songs from the musical and reminisce about their college experiences 10 years later.

Reb Atadero played Zeke Baylor, the athlete who had a secret love for baking, and Kakki Teodoro played Taylor McKessie, the brainiac who was also best friend to Gabriella. In the video, we see the talented trio harmonizing to two of the show’s biggest showstoppers, ‘Start of Something New’ and ‘We’re All in this Together.’

You can watch them and the rest of blueREP’s esteemed alumni at their 25th Anniversary Concert at the Cine Adarna, UP Film Institute this Saturday, April 8 at 3pm and 8pm.
