‘Ang Larawan’ Musical Concert to be Staged at The MET

The MET, together with Culturtain Musicat Productions, will be staging a concert version of Ang Larawan based on the original play by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin, translated in Filipino by National Artist for Theater and Literature Rolando Tinio, with music by National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab and original costume design by National Artist for Theater and Design Salvador Bernal.

Entitled Contra Mundum: Ang All-star Concert ng “Ang Larawan”, the show will be staged at the Metropolitan Theater, Manila for free on May 6, 7pm. This is the link to the free registration. Ang Larawan follows the plight of unmarried sisters Candida and Paula Marasigan, the daughters of high-profile painter Don Lorenzo Marasigan. The story is set in Intramuros right before WWII.

The stage musical first opened in 1997. It most recently had a film adaptation in 2017 featuring Rachel Alejandro as Paula Marasigan, Joanna Ampil as Candida Marasigan, Paulo Avelino as Tony Javier, Sandino Martin as Bitoy Camacho, Cris Villonco as Susan, Aicelle Santos as Violet, Nonie Buencamino as Manolo, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo as Pepang, Robert Arevalo as Don Perico, and Celeste Legaspi as Doña Loleng.

Musical theater artists, film, and television stars that will be performing in the concert include Rachel Alejandro, Hajji Alejandro, Bea Alonzo, Paulo Avelino, Kakai Bautista, Nonie Buencamino, Roeder Camañag, Ricky Davao, Dulce, Bituin Escalante, Jaime Fabregas, Nonoy Froilan, Audie Gemora, Nanette Inventor, Agot Isidro, Karylle, Celeste Legaspi, Jojit Lorenzo, Sandino Martin, Bodjie Pascua, Jericho Rosales, Aicelle Santos, Markki Stroem, Kakki Teodoro, Mitch Valdes, Nyoy Volante, Mikkie Bradshow-Volante, and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the Alice Reyes Dance Philippines.

It is produced by Celeste Legaspi, Girlie Rodis, and Aaron Veloso and directed by Chris Millado, with musical direction by Ryan Cayabyab. They are joined by Nelson Yadao (choreography), Winter David (set design), Barbie Tan-Tiongco (lighting design), Salvador Bernal, Gino Gonzales, Francis Libiran, at Bonsai Cielo (costume design), CJ Despuez (technical direction), and Rards Corpus (projection design).
