‘Alice in Wonderland’ Musical Film Announced
Sabrina Carpenter will star in and produce a musical re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carpenter, who recently starred in the Netflix jukebox dance comedy Work It, will be producing the project under her newly launched company, At Last Productions.
The new film is described as a modern reinterpretation of the classic Lewis Carroll story of a curious young girl who stumbles into a magical and mysterious realm full of unforgettable characters. It will be a contemporary musical set against the backdrop of a music festival called “Wonderland.”
The original screenplay will be written by Ross Evans, whose new musical Catch the Moon, has been set up with Rideback Pictures.
Alice in Wonderland has been interpreted many times on film, most notably in the Disney 1951 animated classic and the subsequent 2010 live-action adaptation directed by Tim Burton and starring Mia Wasikowska in the title role.
Carpenter made her Broadway debut as Cady Heron in the musical version of Mean Girls. She has also been known for her extensive career in television, starring in shows like The Goodwin Games, Girl Meets World, and films like The Hate U Give and Adventures in Babysitting. Among her upcoming projects is the Disney+ musical drama Clouds.
