Alfritz Blanche to Headline ‘The Biggest Showman’ Comedy Cabaret This November
Musical theater actor and singer Alfritz Blanche is set to explore stand-up comedy in The Biggest Showman, a comedy cabaret happening on November 22 at 8 PM at Heavenly Desserts Cafe, Grandia Place along Mother Ignacia Avenue in Quezon City.
The show is part of Spot On! A Cabaret, the bi-monthly series created by theater artist Sweet Plantado-Tiongson to spotlight local theater talent. Plantado-Tiongson, who also directs The Biggest Showman, describes the comedy cabaret as primarily a stand-up comedy show interspersed with musical theater songs, allowing Blanche to incorporate singing into his comedy set.
According to Plantado-Tiongson, the idea for the show came from Blanche himself, who approached her about stepping beyond musical theater to explore his passion for comedy.
“Spot On Cabaret is about giving artists the stage to create and shine,” Plantado-Tiongson shares. “And so, we put the Spot On Alfritz Blanche in The Biggest Showman, a Comedy Cabaret show, where theater meets comedy and a dream gets its moment in the spotlight!”
“The world knows that I can sing… but this time gusto ko magpatawa… gusto [ko] yung masaya, maingay, magulo,” Blanche shares. “Sabi nila try ko daw mag stand-up comedy… yung comedy kaya ko ’yan… yung standing up ang ’di ako sure… subukan nga natin.”
Blanche began performing during his college years as a member of the DLSU-D Chorale before pursuing work as a singer and musical theater actor. His stage credits include Long Season, Prison Dancer, Shrek the Musical, and Delia D. He was also nominated for the Gawad Buhay for Male Lead Performance in a Musical for his portrayal of Sonny in 9 Works Theatrical’s Eto Na! Musikal nAPO! in 2018.
Outside theater, Blanche competed in the second season of GMA Network’s The Clash in 2019, where he finished as one of the competition’s final 12 contestants. He also participated in the first season of Wishcovery.
