‘The Discotheque Massacre’ Immersive Play to Be Staged Inside a Nightclub This October
Oro Teatro, a new theater initiative under artist-led collective Oro Cultura, is set to stage its first production, The Discotheque Massacre, for one night only on October 17, 2026, from 8 PM to 10 PM at a private venue in Quezon City.
The production marks Oro Cultura’s first venture into theater, expanding its work across music, visual arts, and the performing arts. The Manila-based, artist-led collective brings together music, visual and performing arts, and community engagement, with its work centered on Filipino art as a means of shared connection and expression.
A loose, contemporary reimagining of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart, The Discotheque Massacre will be staged inside a functioning nightlife space, where live DJ performances, movement, and audience interaction will be incorporated into the storytelling. Rather than watching from traditional theater seats, audience members will be able to move, dance, and interact within the space as the story unfolds.
Written and directed by Nathania Kuy, the production draws from Poe’s story of obsession, paranoia, and guilt in a contemporary nightclub setting. The story follows a fractured individual whose fixation on an unsettling presence eventually spirals into violence.
The character’s inner psyche is divided among three personas: the Ego, Superego, and Id, whose conflicting desires and morals gradually blur the distinction between thought and reality. Jzar Tabilin, Kuki Zinampan, and Lee Lim play the three personas, respectively.
The exact location of the underground experimental production will be disclosed exclusively to confirmed guests days before the show. The evening will also feature free-flowing beverages, including alcoholic drinks and sodas.
Kuy also serves as dramaturg, with Jolly V. as assistant director and sound designer, Jumac Macuja as set designer, and Denise Ocampo as lighting designer.
