‘Patayin ang mga Surot,’ ‘Tinderella’ Twin Bill Staged Reading Set for This September
Patayin ang mga Surot by Floyd Tiogangco and Tinderella by Seah Antalan are set to return in TANIKALA: Mga Dula ng Pagtakas, a twin bill staged reading happening on September 27 at 6 PM at Harong in Quezon City.
Presented by DAKILA Metro Manila-Rizal as part of the 14th Active Vista Human Rights Festival, TANIKALA brings together two plays examining violence, poverty, survival, and the systems that shape the lives of their characters. The staged reading reimagines both works while placing their respective stories and struggles in conversation with one another.
Patayin ang mga Surot, previously staged at Virgin Labfest 21: Hubo’t Hubad, follows Mommy and Daddy on the final night of Rodrigo Duterte’s presidency as they wait for their son to come home for his 18th birthday. As an Oplan Tokhang operation unfolds across Manila, the couple also contends with a bedbug infestation that refuses to disappear.
Written by Floyd Tiogangco and directed by JM Legaspi and Benedict Barcela, the staged reading features RS Magtaan, Raneza Villamor, and Ralph Onrubio.
Tinderella, previously staged as part of UP Repertory’s Short Shorts 2: Barangay Kapalaran, centers on Nay Bebet, Anghelita, and Neneng B, market vendors navigating poverty, faith, and everyday survival at Quinta Market. As the threat of a clearing operation draws closer, the three are forced to confront circumstances that test their beliefs.
Written by Seah Antalan and directed by Benedict Barcela, the cast features Lotlot Bustamante, Alliyah Basto, Nash Borromeo, James Millan, and Jericho Mikhaille.
The staged reading is part of the Active Vista Human Rights Festival, an annual initiative of the Active Vista Center co-organized by DAKILA–Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism. Its 14th edition runs from September 18 to 27, with activities taking place across Metro Manila, Laguna, Bicol, Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, Dumaguete, and Cagayan de Oro.
TANIKALA: Mga Dula ng Pagtakas will be staged on September 27 at 6 PM at Harong, 56 Mother Ignacia Ave., Diliman, Quezon City. Admission is free, and the event is rated PG.
Reservations are available through the group’s Google Form.
