‘Within and Without End’ Open Rehearsal Production Returns This May

Langgam Performance Troupe’s (LPT) Within and Without End (WAWE), a meta-devised work that ran earlier in March, returns for a limited two-show run this May.

A performance about performers within performers, WAWE commences a trilogy that examines one’s relationship with the theater machine, delving into the metaphysical nature and realities of performance. Framed as an Open Rehearsal, the work unfolds through warm-ups, improvisation exercises, exchanges of ideas, and run-throughs that are occasionally interrupted by the director and dramaturg.

WAWE also shapeshifts: not entirely loose, but open enough to arrive at different outcomes with each Open Rehearsal, further emphasizing the inherent ephemerality of performance.

Developed over two years by Opaline Santos, Serena Magiliw, and the late Joel Garcia, WAWE continues to carry Garcia’s presence through his journal, which is integrated into the performance. The work is directed by Jenny Logico-Cruz, with dramaturgy by Blonski Cruz, who serve as LPT’s artistic director and company manager, respectively.

WAWE runs from May 8 to 9 at 8:00 PM at 99 Mahiyain corner Madasalin St., Sikatuna Village, Quezon City. Following this engagement, the group is set to tour the work in other cities outside Metro Manila.

Tickets are priced at PHP 800 for early reservations (until May 1) and PHP 1,000 thereafter. Registration is available through the group’s Google Form.

Due to the nature of the Open Rehearsal, audience members may be asked to remove their shoes and move around the space under the guidance of the creative team. Some portions of the performance contain nudity.

Langgam Performance Troupe (LPT) is a contemporary performance company focused on experimental, process-based, practice-as-research works.
