GMG Productions has just announced that Karylle will be playing the role of Mrs. Bucket for the global tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Joining Karylle in the Bucket family are Oliver T. Wong and Cohen Toukatly alternating as Charlie Bucket, Steve McCoy as Grandpa Joe, Mychal Phillips as Grandma Josephine, and Michael Dalke as Grandpa George. As previously reported, Daniel Plimpton will play the role of Willy Wonka.

Presented by Broadway International Group and Broadway Asia, in association with AMA Group of Companies and GMG Productions, with the special participation of Auro Chocolate, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will make its Manila premiere at The Theatre at Solaire from July 8 to July 26, 2026.

Based on Roald Dahl’s novel of the same name, the musical follows young Charlie Bucket as he embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime golden-ticket journey into the mysterious world of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Featuring a book by David Greig, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the show brings to life a universe filled with chocolate rivers, nut-sorting squirrels, mischievous Oompa-Loompas, and fantastical inventions.

The Broadway production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory premiered in 2017 and ran for over 300 performances, followed by a four-year North American tour that concluded in 2022. The musical also ran on London’s West End, where it received two Olivier Awards for Best Costume Design and Best Lighting Design.

This global tour is set to travel across Asia, the Middle East, and India over the next two to three years, with stops in major cities including Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Haikou, Taipei, and Seoul, apart from Manila.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, and a book by David Greig, based on the novel by Roald Dahl. Originally directed by four-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, with choreography by Joshua Bergasse, the global tour is directed by Matt Lenz, with choreography by Alison Solomon and musical supervision by Nate Patten and Greg Jarrett.

Also in the creative team for the global tour are Mark Thompson (set and costume design), Christine Peters (tour scenic design), Jeff Sugg (projection design), Rory Beaton (lighting design), Mike Thacker for Orbital Sound (sound design), Basil Twist (puppet design), and Tim Clothier (illusions). Orchestrations are by Doug Besterman, with musical arrangements by Marc Shaiman. Casting is by Paul Hardt Casting. Joseph Longthorne serves as General Manager, with Tayn Yeo as Associate Manager for Broadway Asia International.

Simone Genatt, Marc Routh, Broadway International Group, and Broadway Asia lead the producing team, alongside co-producers HY Culture Company, Doug Meyer Productions, Bergamot Front Row Fund, and Willette Klausner.
