Pingkian: Isang Musikal, which opens at the CCP Black Box Theater on March 1, has just released its cast album on Spotify.

Written by Juan Ekis, with guidance from National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario, the show is a full-length musical depicting the life of Emilio Jacinto from the tail end of the Philippine revolution to the start of the Philippine-American war. The musical follows the trials and triumphs of a nation on the brink of revolution as Jacinto navigates the complexities of war with an unwavering commitment to freedom.

The cast album, which consists of 22 tracks, features Vic Robinson as Emilio Jacinto/Pingkian, Gab Pangilinan as his wife Catalina de Jesus and Florencio Reyes, Bituin Escalante as Josefa Dizon, Kakki Teodoro as Jose Rizal, Paw Castillo as Andres Bonifacio, Almond Bolante as Pio Valenzuela, Joshua Cadeliña as Lucio/Isyo, and Marco Viaña as Duktor.

Also featured are Chan Rabutazo, VJ Cortel, Roby Malubay, Jude Hinumdum, Paula Paguio, Roxy Aldiosa, Jam Binay, Laui Guico, EJ Pepito, Jonathan Tadioan, Lhorvie Nuevo-Tadioan, Mark Lorenz, Sarah Monay, and Edrick Alcontado as members of the ensemble.

Jacinto, also known as Pingkian, one of the youngest Katipuneros, sustains serious wounds in an encounter with the Cazadores at Majayjay, Laguna. As he fights for his life, he is visited by the ghosts of Andres Bonifacio, his closest friend and the revered Supremo of the Katipunan, and Dr. Jose Rizal, his role model for citizenship and civic values. Together, they delve into Jacinto’s haunting nightmares and aspirations for a heroic death—an introspective exploration that serves as an examination of the Katipunan’s conscience and his definition of freedom. It tests whether they have truly upheld the ideals outlined in Jacinto’s Kartilya and faithfully served Lady Freedom, whom he wrote about in his Pahayag.

The show is directed by Jenny Jamora, with music, musical direction, and musical arrangement by Ejay Yatco. Also in the creative team are Jomelle Era (choreography), Carlo Villafuerte Pagunaling (production design), D Cortezano (lighting design), GA Fallarme (projection design), TJ Ramos (sound design and engineering), Kat Batara (dramaturgy), Kiefer Sison (technical direction), and Toni Go-Yadao (assistant direction).

Pingkian: Isang Musikal will run from March 1-24, with shows on Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm at the CCP Black Box Theater. Tickets are available through Ticket2Me.
