In an unprecedented move, the professionally-shot version of Broadway musical Hamilton was deemed eligible for Golden Globe awards this year, with the musical getting nominations for two categories, namely, ‘Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’ and ‘Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’ for Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Also nominated with Miranda is host James Corden (Cats), for his work in the Ryan Murphy-directed adaptation of Broadway musical, The Prom. Like Hamilton, The Prom is also nominated for ‘Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’.
Other films that earned nominations are The Father (adapted from the French play Le Pere) for ‘Best Motion Picture – Drama’, as well as nominations for Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (adapted from a 1982 August Wilson play) also earned nominations for Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman. Hamilton‘s Leslie Odom, Jr. was also nominated for his work in One Night in Miami.
