Winter Starts Early: Frozen Musical on Broadway in Spring 2018
Disney fans, listen up. Yet another Disney musical is set to be staged on Broadway, and what better one than the worldwide hit, Frozen.
The Broadway adaptation will hit the stages in Spring 2018 after an initial pre-Broadway engagement at the Denver Center for Performing Arts in August 2017, says the press release for the musical. Frozen, which is scheduled to join two other Disney hits Aladdin and The Lion King in Broadway will be directed by Tony nominated Alex Timbers. His resume includes directing Peter and the Starcatcher, and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. He also co-created and co-wrote the newly-released Amazon series Mozart in the Jungle, starring Gael Garcia Bernal.
Creative Team
Among the talented people confirmed to be involved in the production are Peter Darling (choreographer), Bob Crowley (set and costume designer), Natasha Katz (lighting), Peter Hylenski (sound) and Stephen Oremus (music supervisor).
Peter Darling is famous for winning both the Tony and Olivier Awards for choreographing Billy Elliot, while Stephen Oremus has won the Tony Awards for Best Orchestrations for both The Book of Mormon and Kinky Boots.
The play will feature the songs from the original Disney Musical, with some new ones added into the list.
No news on the casting yet, but wouldn’t it be a dream if it were Queen Idina playing it on Broadway?
